GROZNY, Russia — The Cliff Keen Wrestling Club’s Jimmy Kennedy claimed the silver medal at 60kg/132 pounds on the final day of the Ramzan Kadirov Cup on Sunday (Oct. 27).
Kennedy posted a 3-1 record in the tournament, falling to Murad Nukhadiev, 10-2, in the championship final. He lead 2-1 at the period break, scoring on a late single leg after giving up a passivity point. Nukhadiev surged ahead in the second period, however, scoring on a quick high crotch and subsequent pushout to steal the lead before using a Kennedy attack to earn exposure points and a three-point takedown on the edge. Kennedy challenged the exchange but lost as Nukhadiev added another point to widen the final gap.
Nukhadiev was a bronze medalist at the 2013 President’s Cup of Buryatia.
It was the second straight week that Kennedy had reached the championship final in a respected international tournament in Russia. Last weekend, he won a gold medal at the Intercontinental Cup in Khasavjurt, Russia.
Kennedy earned his first breakthrough freestyle victory a year ago at the Kadirov Cup, where he claimed bronze for his first overseas medal.
He will return to Ann Arbor before traveling to Baku, Azerbaijan, for the Golden Grand Prix Final on Nov. 22-24.
