NEW YORK, N.Y. — The Cliff Keen Wrestling Club’s Jimmy Kennedy earned a 2-1 decision over Russia’s Aleksandr Bogomoev in the 61kg/134-pound contest at the Beat the Streets Team USA vs the World Dual on Wednesday evening (May 7) in Times Square. Team USA cruised to an 8-3 victory over the World All-Stars in the popular exhibition event.
Neither wrestler was able to get a clean takedown; all three points came on passivity calls. Kennedy was the aggressor early in the match but could not finish on several leg attacks. Bogomoev did not attempt a shot after being placed on the shot clock just 70 seconds into the first period, resulting in a 1-0 Kennedy advantage at the end of the frame.
Bogomoev evened the score on a passivity point of his midway through the second period — and held the criteria advantage — when he was put back on the clock with a minute remaining. He shot in deep on a single leg, but Kennedy defended with a whizzer before sprawling his hips away to square up. Kennedy earned the late passivity point to secure the decision win.
With the decision, Kennedy avenged three earlier losses to the Russian wrestler.
Kennedy, just two weeks removed from his first U.S. Open title, has won each of his last 10 matches.
