ANN ARBOR, Mich. — The Cliff Keen Wrestling Club’s Dave Habat will represent Slovenia in the upcoming 2015 World Championships. The World Championships are set to take place in Las Vegas at the Orleans Arena from September 7-12. Habat will compete at 65kg/143 pounds in the freestyle competition.
Habat is eligible to compete for Slovenia because his mother was born there, and the family still owns a house in the country. Habat was also able to obtain his passport earlier this season. Slovenia does not have a freestyle team. He will also look to qualify the weight for the Slovenian Olympic team for the 2016 Rio Game.
A two-time All-American at Edinboro (2014, ’15), Habat was an NCAA finalist at 149 pounds, falling in overtime in the championship match. He was also a two-time EWL champion and earned 2015 Co-EWL Wrestler of the Year honors. He posted a 134-27 career record, including a 36-3 record as a senior.
