ANN ARBOR, Mich. — The Cliff Keen Wrestling Club wrestlers and coaches will headline two more free pre-meet clinics, scheduled in conjunction with Michigan home duals on Sunday, Jan. 8, and Friday, Jan. 13, at Cliff Keen Arena. The clinics are open to all ages and skill levels and will feature technique instruction. No registration is necessary, and video cameras will be permitted.
Former Wolverine wrestlers Andy Hrovat and Tyrel Todd will host the clinic from 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. on Sunday (Jan. 8) prior to Michigan’s 2 p.m. dual vs. Illinois. Hrovat was a three-time NCAA All-American at 184 pounds, placing as high as fourth while becoming the first U-M true freshman to claim a top-eight finish at the national event in 14 years. His  collegiate record of 132-39 still ranks among the best in Wolverine program history. He also thrived on the international scene following his graduation, representing the United States in the 84 kg/185-pound freestyle division at the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games and competing at the 2006 World Championships.
Todd was a three-time NCAA All-American during his Michigan career (2006-09) — at 184 (2007, ’08) and 197 (2009) pounds — earning national finishes of third, fourth and fifth place. He captured the Big Ten 197-pound title as a senior (2009) and won the prestigious Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational at 184 pounds in 2007. Todd posted a 121-30 career record, including a 54-11 mark in dual meets, to rank 16th among Michigan’s all-time winningest wrestlers. He accumulated 22 career falls, leading the team with 10 during his senior season.
Ryan Churella and Jake Herbert will headline the Friday (Jan. 13) clinic from 5-6 p.m. prior to the Wolverines’ dual vs. Indiana at 7 p.m. Churella was a three-time NCAA All-American and a three-time Big Ten champion at 149 and 165 pounds. His 117-18 career record places him sixth in the U-M record book for career winning percentage (.867) and 17th in career wins. He also ranks ninth among the all-time pin leaders with 35 career falls.
Herbert was a two-time NCAA 184-pound champ and a four-time All-American at Northwestern (2005-07, ’09). He captured three Big Ten titles and posted an incredible 149-4 career record, including a 66-match win streak over this final two seasons. Herbert was presented the Dan Hodge Trophy and the Big Ten’s Jesse Owens Male Athlete of the Year award after his senior campaign. Internationally, he represented the United States in the 84kg/185-pound freestyle division at two World Championships (2009, ’10), claiming the silver medal at the former world event, and is a two-time World University bronze medalist (2006, ’08).
All clinic participants will receive free admission to the meet and a food voucher. Accompanying parents and coaches are encouraged to purchase tickets in advance via the U-M Ticket Office.
