NEW YORK, N.Y. — The Cliff Keen Wrestling Club had four representatives in the freestyle field at the 2015 Bill Farrell International on Saturday (Nov. 7) at the New York Athletic Club. Stevan Micic, Kellen Russell, Dave Habat and J.T. Felix all fell short of placing among the top four at their respective weights.
Felix fared well in his CKWC debut, posting a 4-2 record in his first senior-level competition at 97kg/214 pounds before bowing out in the consolation semifinals. He bounced back from a first-round loss with three straight technical falls — by a combined 31-0 record — before edging veteran Wynn Michalak, 10-9, in the consolation bracket. He fell to another veteran, Enock Francois, in the consolation semifinals after giving up a late four-point throw on the edge with just six seconds remaining.
Micic also made his CKWC debut, posting a 3-2 mark with a three tech fall victories and a pair of one-point defeats to a pair of veterans. He sacrificed an early and sizable lead to eventual champion Tyler Graff in the quarterfinal round, leading by six points midway through the second period before giving up eight unanswered points, including the winning takedown with just eight seconds remaining. Micic was the only opponent to score against Graff in the tournament.
Russell went 3-2 at 65kg/143 pounds, while Habat, representing Slovenia, went 2-2 at the same weight.
