LONDON, England — CKWC wrestler Andrew Howe claimed the silver medal at 74kg/163 pounds at the Olympic Test Event on Sunday (Dec. 11) at the ExCel Center. Howe fell to 2010 World Cup bronze medalist Anuar Geduev of Russia, 6-0, 3-0, in the final.
Geduev scored on an early takedown before adding a three-point takedown and a two-point exposure to bring a premature end to the first period and used a flurry to get behind Howe midway through the second, adding a two-point exposure to seal the two-period win.
Howe reached the finals with two early victories, cruising past China’s Chongyao Zhang, 1-0, 6-0 before edging France’s Luca Lampis, 0-1, 2-0, 1-0 in the semifinals.
Team USA won five medals in the competition, which included many top Olympic hopefuls from around the world. Team USA won the team title, ahead of world power Russia and other top nations.
The CKWC wrestlers will return to competition in the New Year, heading to the annual Dave Schultz Memorial International on Feb. 3, in Colorado Springs, Colo.
